The Importance of Interest Coverage Ratios
The most common definition of zombies is firms with interest coverage ratio less than one. The Oakland Z-score looks at published financial information and stock price market valuation to identify companies that are likely to go bankrupt. Many ways a company can continue include selling assets, doing a distressed exchange or substituting equity for debt.
