The Paradox of Plants Adapting to Fire
Blueberries, eucalyptus and sweetfurns are more flammable than other plants. Fire ecologist Paul Ganyon says this debate has been smoldering since 1970. One idea is that if a plant can burn very hot and intensely, it might burn up its neighbors as well as itself. But some biologists point out that flammability could just as easily be a coincidence.
