Private Enlightenment
A private revelation can introduce new emphases, give rise to new forms of piety or deepen older ones. Pope Benedict the 16th said that ecclesiastical approval of a private revelation essentially means that its message contains nothing contrary to faith and morals. There have been times when God has revealed himself in a in those private revelations,. But they may not claim to add to the faith and absolutely must not contradict anything in the faith.
