The National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine established what are called dietary reference intakes. The average American is taking in 0.9 to 1.8 grams per kg. Vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin A, we all have ranges for those things. For some reason, we consider the RDA for protein to be the minimum, but also the maximum.
