The realities of capitalist life in the united states are some of the harshest in the world because there is no social democracy here. The mythology just serves as a way to create a buffer between what people really need and what people are willing to ask for. I think like half f the country is making less than 30 thousand dollars per year in the united States. You can't afford a two bedroom apartment with that. So that's the american dream. Its's it's, as malcolm ax put it, it's an American nightmare.
