In the summer of 161, Volgossi's led an army into Armenia to pose the Roman-approved king and appointed one of his own countrymen, monarch. The legions in the east did not need to wait for instructions from the emperor to begin making preparations for war. But just three days after entering Armenia, the legion under Severeontus was cornered in the mountains by a much larger Armenian force and wiped out.
