This is from Richard Rohr. The true and essential work of all religion is to help us recognize and recover the divine image in everything. It is to mirror things correctly, deeply and fully until all things know who they are. This is from the Gospel of Thomas. The kingdom of heaven is spread upon the earth, but men do not see it. This is from the book of Luke. Listen, your eye, your outlook, the way you see is your lamp. If your way of seeing is functioning well, then your whole life will be enlightened. But if your way of seeing is darkened, then your life will be a dark, dark place. This is from Romans. Everything comes from him. His power keeps all things together. All things are made for him. This again is from Romans. The basic reality of God is plain enough. Open your eyes and there it is. By taking a long and thoughtful look at what God has created, people have always been able to see what their eyes as such can't see. Eternal power, for instance, and the mystery of his divine being. This is from Acts. God doesn't play hide and seek. He's not remote. He's near. We live in him. Can't get away from him. The kingdom of God doesn't come by counting the days on the calendar, nor when someone says, look here, there it is. Why? Because God's kingdom is already among you. We usually imagine that some aspects of reality are sacred and others are mundane or problematic. And we divide our experiences into what we perceive as okay, desirable, pleasurable, holy, and what we would rather avoid. What we would call the mud, the messiness, the difficulties of life. When we look closely, when we really get close to experience, the very essence of this apparently mundane world is the transcendent shimmering right in its midst. It's here.
