Thomas Merton would certainly be someone I'd love to meet. The subject now is, has become more diverse and in some respects more of a key. Zulman was vehemently hostile to the desert fathers and that tradition of Catholicism. He believed it was a complete dead end. And whilst he could endorse various forms of secular solitude, he had a whole enlightenment contempt for the monastic tradition.
