As ireland continued to be overwhelmingly rural, it's only natural that there were some people who could make their living best by travelling around among the small, scattered population centres. So in this light, we can flip the question upside down and say what really demands explanation is not why some people are itinerant, but rather why most people became settled. And one could even say, i would say, the irish travellers demonstrate that if there had been no roma, europe would have had to create them as it did in ireland.
