British and American English are the same pretty much. There are a couple of moments where you can tell it's American English. Hardly as an adverb, before a verb, is a minimizing adverb. It doesn't mean to do it strongly. So hard we know like hard to, you know, to fall hard to do something hard. To hardly work so hardly means almost none.
