The Importance of Diversity of Opinion in Society
John Stuart Mill says that it's more important to maintain diversity of opinion in society than for the government to protect our right to free speech. But when society tries to stamp down dissidents, then "God help us all," he writes. He argues that since human beings are fallible and we are capable of making mistakes and being mistaken, we have to make sure that we let people who actually might be right speak their mind.
