The city of the future might look like a place where people love to live because there's just a lot of fun things to do. It requires sufficient housing, which requires more housing than what we currently have. And so there's a real opportunity here to convert some of these offices into apartments and you know, have retail on the ground floor, have bars and restaurants on the rooftops.

Pandemic restrictions are mostly over, but cities are still struggling to recover. Empty offices threaten to set off a downward spiral of falling tax revenue and declining services. Today, Explained’s Miles Bryan tries to stop the doom loop before it starts.
