Is the Torah a Genre in and of Itself?

Rabbi Saks said that the surgical way of looking at this text sanitizes Torah, and it's no longer Torah. To learn Torah is to sit as a member of a community, hearing the word of God through a text,. That's something that an academic, biblical scholar, a critical scholar, is unable to do. It's covenantal, that's the word he keeps coming back to. And not just between two people that have a Hegrita, but between generations that pass or are going to be.
