Charles I's Paradise Lost
Charles I tried to command a uniform worship. Was it because he viewed alternative forms of worship as subversive and a challenge to his authority? Charles saw it as going back to your question as an affront to his authority, but also this was born out of what appears to be a sincere religious belief about the best way to worship. When bishops authority were defined in Scotland, he then saw it as a political blow to his reign.
