The Pleasure Pain Principle for Fairbarn
Froyd's idea of the pleasure pain principle is that what human beings are really all about is maximising pleasure, avoiding pain. Here these kids were begging to go back to these very painful environments. Why? Well, because there's something more fundamental than the pursuit of pleasure and pain. In other words, there is deep attachment. A home is home, however bad it is. So attachment trumps pleasure, pleasure pain principle for fairbarn.
