What Are Releasing and Inhibiting Hormones?

Releasing and inhibiting hormones are hormones whose main purpose is to control the release of other hormones. They're primarily produced by the hypothalamus, but there are some that are also produced by the pituitary gland. A tropic hormone is a hormone that has another endocrine gland as its target. At the very lowest level will be the non-tropic hormones which directly stimulate some target cell to produce an effect.
