Physicists like to explore things at the smallest levels, because there is no screwdiver for opening things like protons or even corks. We have questions about what's going on deep, deep in the heart of our sun that we could only really answer by smashing it into another star. That's a grand proposal that will never be funded. But we don't have to build these kaliders ourselves. We just have to look out there into the skies and find the experiment already under way yet. I'll cut you in if it gets funded.
