Episode 26: The climate crisis in South Asia
The Climate Briefing
Climate Change and the Role of Civil Society in Building Resilience
Climate change has an impact on everything which means that we have to deal with glacial melting, glacial lake outbursts floods and riverine and flash floods. Recurring disasters trigger an exponential increase in economic losses, but they also cause an exponential decrease in coping capacity. South Asia is a volatile region and we cannot afford risk of any escalation in tensions, especially triggered by factors that affect human security. Civil society can act in multiple ways to shape policy and change perceptions. We've been working with mountain communities for 20 years and a lot has changed during that time. Communities are now receptive in responding differently and learning lessons from our own experience. We've also modified our communication strategy.
