The Mutineers' Struggle in Delhi

There were certain English women and children who had been sheltered in the palace of the last Mughal emperor. Eventually, despite the king's reminstrances, there were in fact taken out and killed publicly. This created a huge stir in Delhi. The inhabitants of Delhi said that we can no longer hold faith with the mutineers. They have betrayed our trust. And this is not the way in which rulers are supposed to manage their affairs. So it worked completely against the mutinias. But what is interesting about that story is the same kind of sentiment that had spurred the mutineer themselves and the other Indians who helped them rise against the British. It's not any different
