Labour party won a landslide in 97, under blair and brown. This was seen as this sudden new dawn. For the first half of new labour's time there was a strong sense that britoin was becoming a much more modern, self confident country. The battles they weethe were lucky, in some ways, because the battles had kind of been fought for them by missus thatcher in the 19 eightis. They didn't have to confront these big issues more.
