I think I shared a love for reading, but I hated English classes because I thought there was a big difference between real writing and analyzing literature. It's hard to say why it is that we do what we do; the way the human mind is developed is that we look for reasons in our environment. But my mother was a reader. She loved to read. And I did have a lot of time on my own when no one was around. If you love to read, you know how it is. It can be the best thing in the world. The way I made it is psychiatry is really a very roundabout route. But it's something I did not expect growing up.
