A polytheistic world of gods is potentially chaotic, and not only for the outsider. The distinctive personality of a god is constituted and mediated by at least four different factors: established local cult, divine name, myths told about the named being and iconography. All the same, this complex is easily dissolved. And this makes it quite impossible to write the history of any single god.
