The Role of Women in 18th Century Pornographic Writing

Women are more central to and more sympathetically treated in 18th century pornographic writing than probably in any other period. A lot of these texts are written from a kind of masculine point of view where you're the optics of the novel are focused at the woman's body. Fanny Hill is a great example. She writes to her to an intimate friend, I'm going to tell you about the years of my life I spent as a sex worker. So we get this entire account of a very eventful sexual escapade in the voice of a woman on apologetic for the life she's led.
