The Chinese Diaspora in the United States
The Chinese diaspora played an important role in PRC foreign relations throughout the Cold War and it's certainly something that the Chinese government is interested in both before and after 1972. They play a somewhat smaller role in my, in the narrative of this book because they have what we might call a parallel narrative to the reconnection between non-Chinese diaspora members of the United States and China. So as I said, it's a sort of a parallel story but it is one that overlaps with mine and I try to tell it in part in the book as well.
