Joseph Redmond developed a pretty significant AI model called the YOLO. He said that when he saw how much military applications and privacy implications AI had now, he decided to actually leave academia and research any AI development. I think Joseph Redmond leaving is actually in line with what Roger Gross would want, which is having AI researchers just focus on AI. Though I would say I actually think we need more people who think about both in the field to really push forward AI that would be safe for the future.
