Many of the judgments where we look at experts are actually unverifiable. What creates a respect expert is self-confidence and eloquence, but they do not guarantee good performance. Good performance requires some very fireball, criterion, some way to give feedback about the accuracy of the judgments that are made. A fair chunk of the book is actually a sort of a how-to manual, and by that I mean you sort of say how to detect and reduce noise.
