This chapter explores the successful implementation of a policing management system called CompStat, using data to reduce gun violence in high-crime neighborhoods in Chicago. It also discusses the challenges of sustaining the improvement and proposes the creation of a Policing Leadership Academy for police commanders nationwide.
In policing, as in most vocations, the best employees are often promoted into leadership without much training. One economist thinks he can address this problem — and, with it, America’s gun violence.
