C.S. Lewis says we live in a milder age than the poets of ancient Israel. They lived in a world of savage punishments and violence, he writes. But they didn't have the same prohibitions on sharing their resentments that we do today. And it is docetic, a heresy to not consider their flesh, their own fleshment, according to Lewis.
