The Gift of the Present Tense
When you switch from the past tense to the present tense, there's something really interesting that happens where you go from remembering an experience to having an experience. You're having the experience once again, which can be very intense for the storyteller. What the audience gave us credit for, the generosity of their hearing us, it was a gift. And coming up afterwards and expressing that, I completely agree.
