The Dual Function of Senescence in Plants
Salicylic acid is an important plant hormone in regulating some of the most essential, arguably the most essential processes within plants itself. It's inducing these oxygenase enzymes and then you put it into humans,. Now it's blocking these oxygen enzyme enzymes. And so this dual function is just mind blowing to me. How plants are doing this opens that whole new set of questions as to what is going on with signaling and sort of the mainframe of a plant. So we'll talk about senescence, essentially the programmed reduction or death of the plant.
