Jim Jones's Call for People to Devote Their Lives to the Temple

Jim Jones was a communist and he saw his movement certainly by the late 1950s, first and foremost as part of the world communist movement. He urged his people toward a form of socialism he called religious communalism. If you donate your material possessions and dedicate yourself to the work of people's temple, I will meet all your needs. This is the point in the story that most chroniclers look to as the beginning of a transition to something like a cult.
