The Netherworld of Israel
In Egypt, there were real possibilities. Exaltation, joining with the God in the solar bark across the heavens was unique to Egypt. Israel for the most part had a default understanding of the netherworld based on what is present through most of Mesopotamia. But as the Bible says, you know, Psalmist says, no one praises you in She'ol. And so they did not see it as a transition. They of course did believe that everyone continued to exist after death. Everybody in the ancient world believed that.
