The Extinct Thylacine
Thylacines were almost extinct by about 2000 years ago and it appears that they went extinct in New Guinea around the same time. The reasons for those extinctions are debated. One proposal is that the human population of Australia started increasing about 4000 years ago, which may have put additional pressure on Thylacines. Another proposed cause is the appearance of dingoes as a kind of dog who hunted alongside humans.
