The Fear of the Magdalene Laundries

With no education about sex and no contraception, young women got pregnant. Those that could not afford to get an abortion were sent to the Magdalene laundries. Estimated 30,000 girls and young women were incarcerated in these institutions. They were originally set up for prostitutes as they called them back then. The definition of fall removal expanded to include girls who got pregnant out of wedlock.
