Attenuated Omacron
Attenuation means that you altered in some way, you reduced it. In this case, it was the wild type omacron that they were using. I don't know why the word attenuation is used. Fectious to me, implies some pretty specific m stic stuff. Maybe dixon, you would have been happier if they hadn't left the adjective dangling,. ind they had sad, like an attenuated, diseased penotype.
