Odysseus doesn't even make an appearance in the story until like four or five books in. It's all about his son, Telamachus, who's now a young man trying to find out about his dad. The structure of the Odyssey itself underscores the importance of fathers and sons by having the beginning of the poem being about telemicus, Odysseus' son searching for his father.
