The Uruk Phenomenon Stretched Far Beyond Syria and Turkey
Settlements built on the exact pa of uruk and its neighbors show up in what are now syria and eastern turkey. People probably moved outward from southern mesopotamia, building colonies that remained connected to their homeland. Uruk society had elites at the top, captive laborers at the bottom,. winners and losers, people who gave the orders and people who obeyed them.
