The Role of Politics in the Economy
In the South, we had movements first and then electoral politics, whereas in the North, it's primarily electoral. This makes them very difficult for them to actually negotiate when other political parties sort of come in. And I think this also then is impacts on the politics and in another way in terms of because of the economic growth that has taken place in southern states. During the colonial period, a lot of economic transformation took place between north and south. So there are some economic differences which have also impacted on the way in which politics unfolded in the two regions.
