The rate of change itself is changing so fast that any one would have a hard time keeping up. And in trying to live in a society, we were not evolved, either culturally or genetically, to deal with this kind of thing. So too often, modernity for ces us in our careers to respond to market forces rather than to our interests about what it is that we see in the world. We thus generate models of the world that, when we do the scientific work, co ly, achieve three things: predict more and assume less.
