Dr. Baskin: If you have a high pre-test probability, then yes, go ahead and start the monsteroids unless there's some obvious contraindication. He says that will not affect the temporal artery biopsy results as long as it's done within a few weeks. In general, he says, intravenous methylprydine cilone is thought to be more effective than oral prednisone for most conditions.
