There are many things about the book that just really resonated. So Anne was an orphan and there were certainly a lot of orphans in Japan after the war. She's got a huge passion for apple blossom and cherry blossom, which was very popular in Japan. America kind of pushed Anne of Green Gables after the war because they thought it would help kind of as American liberal propaganda. They thought that this kind of book which showed that women were more free thinking might get them away from their old ideas.
