The Importance of Interdisciplinary Insights in NLP Research

In a survey, 82% of people agreed that NLP researchers should incorporate insights from relevant domain sciences. People are presuming the community would be more in agreement with that than they actually were. One potential explanation is that this view is easily defensible. But I also think it might represent a form of wishful thinking because we don't know how to make progress besides scaling.
