Norvelt Was a Community in the Great Depression
In order to develop that community, that was really important to the quakers. They had a whole bunch of communal activities that you could do. People who were going to be residents at norvild got to got to do the work on their homes and got paid for it. There also was a co operative poultry enterprise,. The revenue from the eggs would give the people who worked on the farms a wage. It wasn't money for them to gamble with ommhi like they did in other communities.
