The Role of Voice in the Liberal Order

The idea of autonomy is wielded in very opportunistic and hypocritical ways. The Roman Catholic Church is very much larger than most states in the world. Exit is tremendously costly. If you're still a believer, but you have some real objection to some component, what do you do? Well, what you do is voice. And yes, if you don't like something about your local church, you can find something that's a little bit different. But still, we take it more seriously than that. We do try to exert some voice.
