The Importance of Books in the Sahara
Abu Hamid Al-Arazali was widely read by the scholars in West Africa, especially his Ihya Urumudil. The Islamic philosophical reflection in West Africa was very much Sufi reflection as well. You had here some form of intertwining philosophy and Sufism. It is worth remembering that the Sahara has never been a wall separating two different words.
