The Importance of Integrity
In a Wild West type example that was popular at one stage, the sheriff in the town where there's a riot going on because of a particular murder or whatever, realizes that the only way to stop this riot and the wholesale destruction of property. The idea is that no ethical theory could require us to be disrespectful in that way. Now I know you describe yourself as a consequentialist, so how do you get round these two objections? What these objections are pointing to is that there is great value in people being able to live lives of a gential integrity.
