The Negative Connotations of Propaganda
In broadly liberal discourse, you do see this tendency all over the political spectrum, propaganda as a term now is primarily a term of critique. And it's not until relatively late, as late potentially as around the First World War, that it starts getting primarily negative usage at least in certain contexts. So if you have an ideology still and you're not one of the ones in the middle, it must mean that you are stupid, delusional, or living in the past, you know, like, and those are all ways of saying it's irrational to hold on to anything that isn't.
