Cope and the US Geological Survey in the 1880s

In 1884, Cope rallied marvellously and pulled ahead when a congressional investigation into the US Geological Survey was announced. He got in touch with old government contacts that he had to bow the mouth of Marsh. And so he decided that the time was right, therefore, to unveil his magnum opus, something that he'd been working on for years and years. The New York Herald newspaper published these as explosive revelations,. including accusations that Marsh had misused public funding during this period.
