The Importance of Semiotic Theory in Modern Translation
In the book, I was drawing on theories of how language and interpretation work in order to frame my arguments about how translation is functioning in these medieval vernacular contexts. The development of Merlin as a character is an example of that. We don't know which texts have survived and which ones have been lost. So you have to approach this idea of a source text and a translation quite differently in a way that accounts for that lack of certainty.
