The SPD Is Not a Monolithic Party
The SPD has a troubled relationship with Russia, especially if there's a huge faction that's still very much enthralled by the idea of Vili Brandt and to some extent even Egon Baas. There seems to be in recent weeks some movement regarding sort of the onset of a reckoning. I don't really think that these positive developments are enough. We need to continue to talk about weapons delivery, about maintaining support for Ukraine, even in the face of Putin's threats. And eventually, we'll also have to come to terms with the deeper roots of the crisis,. including the responsibility of individual politicians, parties and of individual institutions.
